As I sit back to reflect
on what I have learned over the past 5 weeks in my research class at Lamar
University I noticed that I had no idea that we had been using action plans at
my school all along. I reflected on things that we do at our campus and
realized that there are some areas we can make an action research plan for and
other areas that we might want to create one. I feel like through watch the
videos a couple of weeks back I was able to get a better grasp of what other
schools do as action research plans. It also opens my eyes to different ways to
go about creating and implementing my plan at my school. The discussions board
has really helped me to be able to share my thoughts with others and get
feedback to how to make my plan better. Also I am able to see what other people
are doing with their plans. One thing I liked about the discussion board was
the week that we shared issues we would have with the action research plan
which gave me the chance to see some ideas for how to make my plan go smother.
Action research plan has many benefits such as theories and knowledge are
generated from research grounded in the realities of educational practice,
practitioners become collaborators in educational research by investigating
their own problems, and practitioners play a part in the research process,
which makes them more likely to facilitate change based on the knowledge they
generate (Carr and Kemmis,1986). I understood more in the end how important
using data is when it comes to creating your plan and data can comes from many
different sources. Rather than someone else telling me what I should be doing
to my teachers and to my students, through engagement in inquiry I’m learning
with my teachers and with my students in my building by closely taking a really
hard look at what I’m already doing and what I need to do to change it
(Bracewell,2008). I learned that action research plan is way different than the
research that we all had to do throughout high school and college. Even though
making the blog wasn’t one of the things that I was looking forward to, but in
the end it has given me another communication with others in my class. Also I
learned how much a blog can help principals communicate with other principals
in the district and around the country. It helps open up that line of communication
with others to get help or ideas on a research action plan. The one thing that I
believe is going to be tough for me know matter what I learn from class is
finding time. Between class duties, football games, football practice, and
family I am will be pulled in different directions. The blog, face book,
discussion boards and web conferences I feel like I will be able to make it
through all the months ahead. Another thing that I learned that you need to get
the students involved, teachers involved, staff development, and community
involved with your research plan. An
action research plan is utilized as a professional development vehicle for
administrators and teachers in an evening inquiry celebration is planned where in
colleagues gather to share their work (Dana, 2009, 141). Over all I have
learned about all the things that I need in order to create a successful and
productive action research plan. You have to create a plan that involves the
entire school not just a select few. I have to have passion to make my school
better in all the areas. Through a strong research plan I will be able to help
take issues that we have on the campus and create a plan of attach to make it
no longer a issues.
